The Moulin Michel timeline

1740 – The first seigniorial mill is built by tenant François Rivard dit Lavigne.

1773 – The wooden mill burns down.

1774 – The second seigniorial mill (the existing mill) is built for seigneur Chaussegros de Léry.

1819 – The first generation of the Grindler family begins working at the mill.

c. 1852–1860 – Major renovations are made to the mill.

1854 – The seigniorial regime is abolished.

1860 – Cyrille Grindler purchases the mill, as a private individual.

1891 – After 72 years of operation, the Grindlers make way for another family of millers, the Lebœufs.

1907 – The bucket wheel is removed and a cast-iron turbine installed.

1937 – The mill is purchased by Alfred Michel, the last miller/owner.

1972 – The mill ceases operation.

1985 – The mill is purchased and classified as a heritage building. Restoration work begins.

1989 – The mill opens to the public.

2019 – The Moulin Michel in Gentilly becomes a recognized museum.
